DOC Ostuni Shines at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles

Villa Agreste’s “Lumen in aria” received an unexpected but welcome recognition at the 30th edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles a couple of weeks ago: the Bianco Ostuni DOC has won a silver medal, making it the first time a wine from this DOC has been awarded in an international competition.

“The news fills us with pride,” says Enzo Iaia, owner of Villa Agreste, “as our work over the past eleven years has been conducted with a specific goal: to create a high-quality wine project that would bring new life to the DOC Ostuni, which had been lost for many years and has now finally been reborn. Ottavianello, Impigno, and Francavidda are rare grape varieties, and therefore particularly precious, to be valued and made better known, and they are only found in this specific area. In particular, the Bianco Ostuni DOC that we have created continues to amaze us with its interesting evolutions, especially from an olfactory point of view: I believe that a wine with an international character has emerged, thanks to the admirable complementarity of the two grape varieties that compose it, Impigno and Francavidda to be precise, one extremely vertical and mineral, the other practically semi-aromatic, bringing with it a myriad of tropical fruit aromas. And in fact, from the profile created by the tasters of the Concours de Bruxelles, all this aromatic complexity emerged, including the note of hydrocarbon that in some moments even takes us back to a Riesling.”
